Music And In Greatness Children
“MAGIC” class is held at the Baldwin Academy of Dance (723 Eighth Street). The class is for children from birth through age five and their respective caregiver(s). The instructor is Kelley Bethell-Smith. More information about her credentials can be found on the instructor bio portion of the website! The next opportunity for upcoming MAGIC classes will be held on the following dates:

The Academy’s Parent/Tot class will use methods of music and movement as the foundational elements on which to base other forms of learning. This would include, but not be limited to the following:
1.) the development of cognitive skills (such as language skills, learning of colors, shapes, numbers, etc.);
2.) the development of behavioral skills (such as sharing, learning effective coping mechanisms, encouraging others, and establishing a pride in learning at all levels, etc.);
3.) the introduction to musical concepts and instrumentation, along with rhythm and movement exercises (such as being exposed to a variety of musical styles, exposure to baby/infant yoga, etc.)
Each class generally incorporates the above-mentioned, in addition to exercise, rest time, a time for crafts/art, and a story. All are tied into the theme being explored for that class and the music that is used.
*Specific points of emphasis for the November class will include:
*exploring the elements of nature (earth, wind, sky, and trees)
*social and behavioral skills
*introduction to musical notation recognition
*learning how to tell stories through music (Each child will be asked to share their favorite book and the
class will then choose a song to interpret the story.)
In each class we will also prepare for our performance for the May 2011 spring recital . All students enrolled in any MAGIC class throughout the 2010-2011 school year are welcome and encouraged to participate! There will be other components to this exciting class as well--but perhaps the most important things to know is that it will be a great deal of fun, a wonderful learning opportunity for your child, and an incredible experience for you, as a loving caregiver, to witness the “MAGIC” at the Baldwin Academy of Dance!
$57 PER CHILD AND $10 FOR ADDITIONAL SIBLINGS
